What to Expect from IT Jobs in Japan?

Most IT jobs are based in Tokyo, and you’ll work in roles that match your skills. Here’s what you can expect:

  • Working Hours: 9:00 AM to 6:00 PM, including a one-hour lunch break
  • Days Off: Saturdays, Sundays, and national holidays, adding up to 123–130 holidays a year
  • Overtime Pay: Extra pay for any overtime hours, as per Japanese labour laws
  • Benefits: Health insurance, in-house and external training, and study support
  • Monthly Salary: Starting from 200,000 YEN, with annual raises
  • Bonuses: Typically, equal to four months' pay

Who Can Apply?

To qualify, you’ll need:

  • Education: A bachelor’s degree in IT or a similar field
  • Language Skills: Japanese language skills (JLPT N3 or better) and good English
  • Required Documents: An updated resume and a recent photograph

Visa Information

You can work full-time in Japan as an IT professional once you have received the Engineer/Specialist in Humanities/International Services visa. The visa lasts from 15 months to five years, with renewal options. After five years, you may be able to bring family members to Japan.
